Aras Amiri, a student living in the UK, was released from Evin Prison on bail.

Aras Amiri, an Iranian student at Kingston University in the United Kingdom, who was arrested by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence and transferred to Evin Prison, was released from prison after posting bail.

Mohsen Omrani, Aras Amiri's cousin, who had recently announced her arrest in March of last year, wrote on Twitter on Monday night, May 11, that Ms. Amiri had been released on bail of 500 million Tomans.

Aras Amiri, a master's student in the philosophy of art, had traveled to Iran to visit his family when he was arrested before returning to London.

Mr. Omrani wrote on Twitter: "Aras was simultaneously working at the British Council due to his field."

This council previously had an independent representation in Iran, but it ceased its activities in Tehran about 9 years ago after its staff were summoned to the security services.

Aras Amiri, 32, who had traveled to Iran many times before, last traveled to Iran on March 8 of last year to visit his sick grandmother, but was arrested five days later by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence.

Mr. Omrani wrote: "Aras had friends from artistic groups in Iran in the course of his work and collaborated in holding exhibitions, film festivals, and overall cultural-artistic exchanges between Iran and England. Most importantly, all activities were in interaction and coordination with the artistic departments of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs."

In recent years, several Iranians living in the UK have been arrested after traveling to Iran.

Last week, the Campaign for Human Rights in Iran confirmed that Abbas Adalat, a professor at Imperial College London and activist against sanctions and military action against Iran, had been arrested and detained by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Mr. Edalat was arrested by the IRGC at his home on April 16. According to his relatives, although the necessary bail has been posted, he is still in detention.

In 2005, Abbas Adalat founded a non-governmental organization in London called the Anti-Sanctions and Military Intervention in Iran Movement (CASMII), calling for the lifting of international sanctions against the Islamic Republic and preventing military intervention in Iran.

Mr. Adalat has traveled to Iran many times in recent years.

Another Iranian resident of the UK who was arrested after traveling to Iran is Nazanin Zaghari, an employee of the Thompson Reuters Charity Foundation, who was arrested by IRGC agents along with her young daughter at Tehran's Imam Khomeini Airport two years ago upon returning to London.

The court sentenced Ms. Zaghari to five years in prison on security charges. She and her family have denied the charges.
