Growing concern in Israel over the possibility of a military confrontation with Iran

Some Israeli experts have expressed doubts about the success of the Trump administration's approach to Iran. In response to Iran's reduction of its commitments under the JCPOA, Benjamin Netanyahu has once again spoken of the country's direct threat to Israel.

Following Iran's announcement of the implementation of the fourth step of reducing its commitments under the JCPOA, the debate over the appropriate approach towards the country has been seriously raised. An analyst for the Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper has also looked at this issue from the perspective of the Israeli government's possible policy and its consequences.

There is growing concern in Israel about the possibility of a military confrontation with Iran. On the same day that the fourth step of reducing JCPOA commitments was announced (Tuesday, November 4), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke of Iran's expanding aggressive policies in the region and its plan to destroy Israel.

The Israeli Prime Minister also said that Israel would defend itself against Iranian attacks and would never allow the country to be equipped with nuclear weapons.

A number of other countries have also expressed concern about Iran's reduction in its commitments to the JCPOA. Even Russia, while blaming the change in Iran's approach to its nuclear activities on US policies, has expressed serious concern about Iran's policy towards reducing its commitments.

It is now said that the Islamic Republic has transferred two thousand kilograms of uranium gas to that region to activate the centrifuges at the Fordow nuclear facility.

Increasing criticism of American policy

On Wednesday, November 6, a number of Israeli commentators criticized the Trump administration's policy toward the Iran nuclear deal and preventing the Islamic Republic from expanding its influence in the region.

They believe that US policy has not achieved the goals set by the country. For example, US maximum pressure through increased sanctions on Iran has not led to the surrender of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In addition, it is said that Iran has become more active in the region and that the possibility of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons has even increased compared to the Obama era and within the framework of the nuclear agreement.

Although Israeli experts have predicted that the Islamic Republic of Iran has a long way to go before it can acquire nuclear weapons, US Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro, in an interview with the conservative newspaper The Times of Israel, described Iran's recent actions as alarming and referred to them as signs that Iran is continuing to reduce its commitments to the JCPOA.

Possibility of military confrontation

It is said that Israeli attacks on positions of Iran's allies in Iraq and Syria could increase the risk of a military confrontation with Iran. The report in the Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper referred to Iran's missile capabilities.

Israeli military experts have expressed concern about Iran's missile capabilities, believing that these missiles are highly accurate and have the capacity to target the heart of Israel.

For example, there has been talk of the possibility of an Iranian missile attack on Ben-Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv or even the country's Ministry of Defense building.

Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes in Iraq and Syria in recent months. For example, the Israeli Air Force reportedly targeted an air base in Syria in August of this year, where Iran is said to have deployed deadly drones that were intended to be used to attack Israel.

In addition, it has been said that military forces stationed in northern Israel are on full alert. The Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper also referred to a meeting of Israeli military commanders to determine a strategy to counter Iranian threats. The meeting was held behind closed doors and no information about the decision of the Israeli army commanders was published.
