Kazerun Friday prayer imam stabbed to death

A Fars provincial police official announced on Wednesday morning, June 28, that Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Khorsand, the Friday prayer imam of Kazerun, had been stabbed to death.
According to Fars News Agency, Colonel Kavous Mohammadi, the deputy social affairs officer of the Fars provincial police force, said: Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Khorsand was attacked with a knife by an individual at his home an hour ago and was taken to the hospital, but unfortunately, due to the depth of the wound in his abdomen, he died in Kazerun Hospital.
The Fars provincial police official stated that Mohammad Khorsand was attacked while returning from a funeral ceremony at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Colonel Kavous Mohammadi stated: "The attacker has been identified and officers are trying to arrest him."
Dariush Dehghan, the governor of Kazerun, also confirmed the news of the killing of the city's Friday prayer imam and said: "The attacker has been identified and efforts are ongoing to arrest him."
These government and law enforcement officials have not mentioned the identity of the attacker or his possible motives for attacking the Friday prayer imam in Kazerun.
Public protests against the country's divisions in the city of Kazerun on May 16 and 17 of last year led to clashes with police forces and several days of unrest in the city.
In these clashes, a number of people were killed and injured, and public property, including government buildings and banks, was damaged.
Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Khorsand was among the opponents of the country's division plan in the city of Kazerun and had a disagreement with the city's representative.
Kazerun County is located in Fars Province, 120 kilometers west of Shiraz.
