Father of Vahid Damour, one of those killed in the November 2019 protests: Let's not fool ourselves; this situation is not "fixable"

Morteza Damour, the father of Vahid Damour, one of those killed in the November 2019 protests, holds the Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Khamenei, responsible for the deaths of the protesters, without naming him, and says that the same person who said he supports the decision of the three branches of government issued the order to kill the protesters.

Mr. Damour, a veteran of the Iran-Iraq War, spoke to Masih Alinejad , host and commentator of the Voice of America Tablet program , who objected to his son and other protesters being called rioters . He considered their protest against the high price of gasoline to be justified, saying that the answer to protesting is not bullets.

He says he has a message for the people of Iran, and that message is a desperation to improve the current situation.

Vahid Damour was shot dead in November 2019 during the Fardis Karaj protests.

The 2019 protests began on Friday, November 14, with the sudden announcement of a rise in gasoline prices in various cities in Iran. With the violent repression and direct firing of security forces at the protesters, the protests took on a different color and flavor, and the protesters' slogans were directed at senior officials of the Islamic Republic.

According to Reuters, at least 1,500 protesters were shot dead during the protests. The Iranian government also arrested a large number of protesters and sentenced dozens of Iranian citizens to long prison terms or death sentences.
