Prince Reza Pahlavi criticizes the silence of parliamentarians regarding the reduction of Iran's share in the Caspian Sea

At the same time as reports were published about "the ceding of part of Iran's rights in the Caspian Sea," Prince Reza Pahlavi criticized the silence of the members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly on the matter.

Prince Reza Pahlavi wrote on Twitter: "It is appropriate to stand up to protect and safeguard the water, soil, and national interests, and to force those sitting in the seats of parliament to defend their rights with determination and in one voice, and to prevent the repetition and continuation of ominous historical events."

The leaders of the five Caspian Sea littoral states signed two memorandums of understanding between the five governments in Aktau, Kazakhstan, on August 11. In previous years, the Islamic Republic had claimed equal rights of 20 percent for the five countries, but some activists say that the new memorandum, which Iran also signed, means that the Islamic Republic has backed down from this claim and has agreed to a share of about 11 percent.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman dismissed these concerns and said that there had been no new developments in this regard.

Iran and the countries of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Azerbaijan are located around the Caspian Sea.
