Baqer Namazi, a dual-national prisoner, has been hospitalized.

Baqer Namazi, an Iranian-American citizen imprisoned in Iran, has been hospitalized due to low blood pressure and an irregular heartbeat, Reuters reported, citing the prisoner's lawyer.
Reuters reported on Wednesday evening (January 17) that the lawyer of Baqer Namazi, a dual-national prisoner in Iran, had been taken to the hospital due to heart problems, including low blood pressure and an irregular heartbeat.
According to Mr. Namazi’s lawyer, Jared Genser, this is the fourth time his client has been hospitalized since his arrest in February 2016. Baqer Namazi is 81 years old and has been in detention since March 2015.
Qay Namazi was a former UNICEF official and the governor of Khuzestan before the 1979 Iranian revolution. He had gone to Iran to check on his son when he was arrested. His son, Siamak Namazi, was also arrested in October 2015 during a trip to Iran.
Jared Genser, the American lawyer for the Namazis, had previously stated that both Siamak Namazi and his father were in poor health. They had been subjected to various physical and mental pressures. He had stated that he was extremely concerned about their health.
The Namazis were each sentenced to 10 years in prison. They were charged with “collaborating with hostile foreign governments.” Their appeal was rejected.
At least four American citizens are currently imprisoned in Iran. In addition to the Namazis, Xiao Wang, a Chinese-American citizen, and Nizar Zakka, a Lebanese citizen residing in the United States, are also being held in Iran.
The US House of Representatives recently passed a resolution holding the Revolutionary Guard responsible for the arrest of Iranian citizens and accusing the Islamic Republic of holding them "hostage."
