Judiciary clashes with street musicians; Instagram pages of at least three singers blocked

The Islamic Republic's judiciary has cracked down on a number of street singers and musicians in Iran and has blocked their pages on the social network Instagram.

This morning, Thursday, June 2, the Instagram pages of some Iranian singers and musicians were closed. Messages were published on these pages stating that their Instagram pages had been seized "by order of a judicial authority."

According to this message, the reason for blocking this page was "publishing criminal content" and "the factors involved in the crimes in question" have been prosecuted.

Mehrdad Mehdi, Aso Kohzadi, and Naghmeh Moradabadi are among the street singers and musicians whose pages have been blocked on Instagram.

According to reports, some of these people have also been summoned for "partial explanations."

In recent days, after a video was released of the artist from Shiraz singing "Negar Moazzam" during a tourist tour in the village of Abyaneh, the Natanz Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office announced that the artist had been summoned to judicial authorities.

Iran's FATA (Production Space and Information Exchange Police) has taken several actions in recent years to close the pages of Iranian users, summon them, and in some cases arrest them.

Artists, photographers, dancers, and fashion activists are among the groups whose pages on Instagram have been blocked in recent years and, in some cases, summoned to court.
