Rouhani's government's plan to prevent child sexual abuse

Child sexual abuse is one of the painful phenomena of Iranian society that goes on under the skin of the city and away from the attention of officials and the gaze of the media and public institutions. Now, there is talk of preparing a plan to prevent child sexual abuse in Tehran province.

Siavash Shahrivar, head of the social office of the Tehran governor's office, announced in a report published by the ILNA news agency that a plan has been prepared to prevent child sexual abuse in Tehran province. The important point is that the preparation of this plan is the first step taken by the government to combat child sexual abuse.

The news of the preparation of a plan to prevent child sexual abuse in Tehran province was announced at a specialized meeting on the operationalization of the “Citizens’ Rights Charter” in the 12th government. Elham Aminzadeh, special assistant to Hassan Rouhani, also participated in the meeting.

No further information has been announced about this plan. Neither the details of this plan are clear, nor the date of its approval and implementation. It is not even clear whether similar plans are foreseen for other provinces of the country or what plans the officials have to deal with this painful phenomenon in Iranian society.

The first public institution for the prevention of child sexual abuse

Preventing child sexual abuse in Iran is one issue, and supporting abused children is another. The Islamic Republic has failed to prevent sexual abuse and provide assistance to abused children.

Not long ago, a non-governmental organization was established to support abused children. This is the only non-governmental organization that works in this field. This non-governmental organization is led by Dr. Shahin Aliayeizand. He is a professor at Allameh University and a psychologist and has established the “Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse” organization in Tehran.

In an interview with Deutsche Welle, Dr. Aliayizand discussed the establishment of this institute. He told a DW reporter about receiving assistance from government agencies: "The most important challenge was convincing the community stakeholders, which was honestly overwhelming. I was told that they would issue the license, but I should not expect any assistance. If there was a challenge, which was also very big, it was in proposing and obtaining the license years ago. Now that they see how sincerely I work, they do not create any obstacles. But our problem today is that the stakeholders do not give us the facilities. I have many plans to implement, but everything depends on my personal resources."
