Britain concerned about Iran's role in Israel-Syria military confrontation

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has expressed concern about the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the military confrontation between Israel and Syria, saying that Iran's activities are derailing ongoing efforts to establish genuine peace.
According to Reuters, Boris Johnson, in his remarks on Monday, called on Russia to use its influence to pressure the Iranian regime to stop provocative actions and instead help the process of a broad-based political settlement in order to de-escalate tensions.
On Saturday, in one of the most serious confrontations between Tehran-backed forces in Syria and Israel, Syrian air defenses targeted an Israeli F-16 fighter jet, leading to its downing over Israeli territory.
The plane, along with several other Israeli fighter-bombers, had targeted Iranian and Syrian positions on Syrian territory in response to an Iranian military drone intruding into Israeli airspace.
