War and natural disasters have displaced tens of millions of people.

The Norwegian Refugee Council, a relief organization, said that one person was displaced within their own country every second last year. There are currently 40 million people displaced within their own country worldwide.

The Norwegian Refugee Council published a detailed report on Monday (May 22) regarding the situation of refugees around the world, focusing in particular on the situation of internally displaced persons.

The report of this aid organization states, among other things, that last year (2016) one person was displaced within their own country every second. The reasons for this displacement were mostly war, violence, and natural disasters.

The number of these people reached 31 million in 2016, and according to this report, it has now reached 40 million.

The report states that war, violence, and conflict were the cause of the displacement of approximately 7 million people in 2016.

In the Congo alone, 920,000 people, in Syria 824,000, and in Iraq 660,000 have been forced to leave their homes and live as refugees in another part of their country due to war and violence in order to save their lives.

The Norwegian Refugee Council's report also states that natural disasters such as floods, storms, and widespread forest fires have caused about 24 million people worldwide to be displaced within their own countries.

The United Nations has also warned in recent months about the worrying situation of refugees and asylum seekers.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced earlier this year that there are currently 620,000 Afghans “displaced by war” in their own country. Many of these refugees are children.
