Khash, Delgan and Taftan villages surrounded by floods

Floods in Sistan and Baluchestan have cut off communications to 350 villages and damaged bridges, water and electricity networks. Villagers and nomads need food, fuel and blankets, but the Red Crescent's facilities are not sufficient. There is a high risk of roof collapse on mud houses.

Two days of heavy rain and flooding rivers have caused extensive damage to infrastructure in Sistan and Baluchestan province. The provincial director general of the highways department says that roads to 90 villages in the outskirts of Taftan and Mirjaveh have been cut off. The head of the Red Crescent Rescue and Relief Organization reports that one person was killed in Bashagard and another citizen is missing in Rask city.

ISNA news agency writes that the cities of Khash, Delgan, and the villages on the outskirts of Taftan are surrounded by floods, and the people of some cities and villages are waist-deep in water: "The Red Crescent's facilities are not sufficient to provide assistance because there are not enough suitable facilities and infrastructure to reopen rural roads and provide services to the deprived flood victims of the province."

The governor of Qasr-e-Qand announced that 40 villages in the city are under water and their communication with the surrounding area has been cut off. He also reported that 30 electricity poles have fallen in the city.

The governor of Delgan reported extensive material and infrastructure damage, loss of livestock and livestock, and serious damage to residential units, farms, and agricultural machinery. He announced that 117 millimeters of rain fell in the city, while the average annual rainfall for the province is 113 millimeters.

The governor of Sarbaz also announced that the city's connection with Chabahar Port has been cut off due to seasonal river flooding, and said that more than 200 villages in Sarbaz have no connection with the city center. It was announced that with the insistence of the village heads and village councils, the residents were able to leave their mud houses in time.

The governor of Delgan mentioned the region's need for relief teams and essential items, saying that in some areas, people's belongings and lives have been washed away, and villagers and nomads need food: "The weather is getting cold and we need heating items, including blankets and heaters, as well as special distribution of kerosene. Distribution of drinking water, bread, and flour is also very vital."

ISNA news agency quoted the district governor of Irindegan Khash as saying: "On average, about 90 millimeters of rain has fallen in this area, and now the risks of landslides and the collapse of the roofs of old, adobe and mud houses are being felt."

The governor of Khash has announced that there is no danger to the Mehran Dam, but the rain has destroyed dozens of protective walls and earthen embankments in the city. Due to heavy snowfall, the transit route from Khash to Zahedan is extremely slippery.

The head of the National Drought and Crisis Management Center of the Iranian Meteorological Organization has attributed the change in precipitation patterns in the south of the country to two factors: "weather variability" and "climate change."
