Inah Canabaro Lucas, the world's oldest person, has died.

Inah Cabarro Lucas, a Brazilian nun and the world's oldest person, has died at the age of 116.

Brazilian nun Ina Lucas was born in southern Brazil on June 8, 1908. She was so emaciated as a child that there was no hope of her survival, but she joined the nuns at the age of 26.

The Teresian Sisters Church in Porto Alegre, Brazil, issued a statement yesterday, acknowledging the dedication and sacrifices of Inah Cabarro throughout her life, and confirming her death. She was 116 years and 326 days old at the time of her death.

Robert Young, director of the GRG (Geronology) Research Group, confirmed her birth on June 8, 1908, according to official documents, adding: "Mrs. Lucas had previously stated her date of birth as May 27, 1908." She had stated many times in the past that the secret to her longevity was her faith in God.

Inah Lucas is known as the 15th oldest person in recorded history and the second oldest nun after Lucille Randon from France.
