Several Iranian and Afghan "ISIS" members arrested in Mashhad

The deputy prosecutor of Mashhad announced that 21 Iranian and Afghan "agents" of the Islamic State group, ISIS, who were planning to carry out "suicide operations" in Iran, have been arrested in the city of Mashhad.

Hassan Heydari, the deputy prosecutor, said in an interview with the Thursday, July 5th, issue of the Khorasan newspaper, without mentioning the number, that some of those arrested were Iranian and some Afghan, and that these individuals entered the country "by forging and abusing documents."

Mr. Haidari announced that these individuals "entered the country after receiving combat and suicide training or pledging allegiance to ISIS leaders."

He also said, without giving details, that some of those arrested had previously "carried out actions and operations in favor of ISIS abroad."

According to Mr. Heydari, interrogations revealed that these individuals "intended to carry out various operations, such as ambushes or suicide bombings."

The deputy prosecutor of Mashhad did not provide further details about the arrest of these individuals.

The attacks on Wednesday, June 7, in Tehran were described as "infiltration" operations.

As described in the reports, in Operation "Invasion", Islamic State forces initially engage in armed conflict and kill people, and then blow themselves up when there is a possibility of their being captured.

The parliament building and the mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini in Tehran were targeted in two simultaneous attacks on June 7, for which the Islamic State group, ISIS, claimed responsibility hours later.

The attack killed 17 people and injured more than 50.

After that, Iranian security and judicial authorities announced that they had arrested dozens of people in the provinces of Alborz, West Azerbaijan, Fars, Kermanshah, and Kurdistan.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Reza Pourdastan, deputy commander of the Iranian army, announced on Wednesday, July 27, that "so far 60 terrorist groups" have entered Iran, but "none" have been able to succeed.

Mr. Pourdastan did not mention the date of these groups' entry into Iran.

In this regard, on Saturday, July 23, after gunfire was heard at Mehrabad Airport, Mohsen Hamedani, Deputy Security Officer of the Tehran Governor's Office, announced that a "countering terrorist acts" maneuver had been held in Hall 4 of the airport.

Three days later, Iranian media reported the killing of airport security officer Mehdi Yazdi during this "maneuver," and the IRGC's Security Command's public relations department confirmed it.

However, the Revolutionary Guard did not provide any details about the incident.

The Revolutionary Guard also announced on June 19 that it had targeted one of the Islamic State group's centers in Deir Ezzor, Syria, with its missiles in retaliation for Tehran's attacks.

The number of missiles fired was announced as six, and the Revolutionary Guards considered the operation "successful," although the Haaretz newspaper quoted Israeli military officials as saying that only two of the missiles fired hit their intended targets.

Meanwhile, two weeks after the incident, the office of the Leader of the Islamic Republic published a report on the meeting of the IRGC commanders with Ayatollah Khamenei, which, according to the office, took place just hours after the attack.

During the meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei "celebrated" this move and called for the development of Iran's missile program.
