Earthquake shakes western Kermanshah province

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale shook the western regions of Kermanshah province for the umpteenth time in the last five months.

According to reports, the earthquake, which occurred at noon on Sunday, April 12, left a total of 23 injured in Sar-e-Pul-e-Zahab, Gilan-e-Gharb, and Qasr-e-Shirin, all of whom were treated on an outpatient basis, according to the Iranian Red Crescent Society.

The Geophysics Institute of the University of Tehran announced that the earthquake occurred at a depth of seven kilometers.

Five months ago, an earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale in the Sar-e-Pul-e-Zahab region killed 620 people, injured more than 12,000, and caused serious damage to 100,000 residential units.

During the cold season, due to the lack of access to heating equipment and adequate facilities, a number of other earthquake victims, including several children, suffered from frostbite and died.
