A 5.3 magnitude earthquake shook Marivan

The University of Tehran's Seismological Center announced that an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale shook Marivan in Kurdistan Province on Tuesday evening, April 7.

 

According to IRNA news agency, the earthquake was reported at 7:42:23 p.m. on Tuesday evening, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The earthquake occurred 24 km from Marivan, 27 km from Chenareh, 28 km from Buin Sofli (a village in Baneh), and 98 km from Sanandaj, and was also felt by people in the cities of Saqqez, Baneh, and Divandareh.

The Director General of Crisis Management of the Kurdistan Provincial Government told this news agency that no reports of possible damage have been announced so far.

According to Mohammad Fallahi, Red Crescent relief teams and emergency medical services are on standby in these three cities.

Marivan is located 135 kilometers west of Sanandaj, the capital of Kurdistan Province.
