Earthquake in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad leaves more than 100 injured

According to the US Geological Survey, a 5.2-magnitude earthquake near Yasuj in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad provinces shook the city and surrounding areas.

 

Iranian domestic news agencies reported that the earthquake on the morning of Wednesday, May 12, left dozens injured.

The spokesman for the country's Emergency Organization said: The number of earthquake casualties in the city of Sisakht, located in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad provinces, has increased to 105 people.

Jalal Pouranfard, director of the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad Emergency Medical Center, said that after the initial hours, the situation had changed from red to orange, and fewer forces were involved in transporting the wounded.

Amanullah Jahanbin, CEO of the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad Red Crescent Society, said that the earthquake has not caused any deaths so far, but that the incident has caused landslides in some areas of the province. He called on mountaineers and nomads to refrain from traveling in mountainous areas.

According to local officials, the earthquake caused power and water outages in some areas in the early hours. The roads from Dena to Yasuj and Si Sakht to Yasuj were also temporarily closed.

According to ISNA news agency, the governor of Boyer Ahmad County also announced a water outage in the city of Madavan and its suburbs following the Si Sakht-Yasuj earthquake in the city.

In November of last year, a severe earthquake shook the border areas of Kermanshah province, leaving 569 dead.

The provinces of Kermanshah, Kohgiluyeh, and Boyer-Ahmad are located at the foot of the Zagros Mountain Range.
