Iran Floods: 11 Provinces Affected by Floods and Inundation, 61 Main and Secondary Roads Closed

According to reports, 11 provinces in Iran are currently facing flooding and inundation as of the morning of April 17. The Traffic Police Information and Control Center has also reported that 61 main and secondary roads across the country are closed.

Morteza Salimi, head of the Iranian Red Crescent Relief and Rescue Organization, told Mehr News Agency that the provinces of Ilam, South Khorasan, Razavi and North, Zanjan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Fars, Kerman, Golestan, Hormozgan, and Yazd are currently experiencing flooding and inundation.

According to Mr. Salimi, relief and rescue operations were carried out in 105 cities and villages, and a total of more than 14,000 people were provided with assistance.

In addition, relief operations are continuing in South Khorasan and Razavi, Sistan and Baluchestan, Fars, Kerman, and Hormozgan.

61 roads are blocked.

Iranian traffic police say 61 main and secondary roads in the country are closed. These roads include roads in Mazandaran, Kohkiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad, Gilan, Hamedan, Golestan, Semnan, Ilam, Kurdistan, Khuzestan, Bushehr, Lorestan, Tehran Metropolitan Area, and South and Razavi Khorasan, Kerman, Semnan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Yazd, and Ardabil.

Landslides have been reported on some roads, safety is not sufficient on some routes, a number of roads are blocked due to rainfall and river flooding. Some axes are currently closed due to landslides and some are closed due to repairs and safety.

Flooding continues in northern Sistan and Baluchestan

Mohammad Ali Piri, the governor of Hirmand, told ISNA news agency that the water entering the dam is flowing towards the Shirdel, Kanal Yak, and Golmir rivers. According to Mr. Piri, all three rivers “have control dams and the flood can be controlled so that no damage is done to the people.”

The governor of Zabol city also said that no village in the city has been evacuated so far.

Gholamreza Ganji has also denied "rumors" about "the failure of dams in some neighboring countries."

He did not name these "neighboring countries" but emphasized that "the water entering Afghanistan will be utilized in the best possible way."

Floods from Iran into Pakistan have left a number of people dead and injured in Iran's eastern neighbor, according to reports on Monday. There have also been reports of rivers overflowing in border areas of the country, and warnings of flooding and possible damage have been issued in the region.

Rain continues in the northwest

The Iranian Meteorological Organization has said that rainfall will continue in the provinces of West Azerbaijan and East Azerbaijan on Tuesday.

According to the organization, the temperature will increase in the northeast of the country at the same time.

The Iranian Meteorological Organization has predicted that the rainfall will gradually spread to the central, northeastern, and northwest regions, and on Friday, as the currents over the Caspian Sea turn north, the rain will reach the coastal provinces and continue for several days.
