Video identification of “Rauf”, an IRGC intelligence interrogator

In recent days, the identification and testimony of a number of victims of IRGC intelligence has led to the identification of a notorious interrogator by photo. The interrogator, known by various names, most notably “Rauf,” was identified by victims among photos of people in the front row at Ayatollah Khamenei’s speech. Detention Center 2A, owned by the Revolutionary Guards Intelligence, is located in Evin Prison, a place where many political and civil activists have been interrogated and sometimes mistreated after their arrest. HRANA has spoken to a large number of former political prisoners to confirm the identity and role of this security agent.

According to HRANA News Agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, in recent days, the identification and testimony of a number of political and civil activists who were victims of the operations of the Revolutionary Guards' intelligence services has led to the identification of a notorious interrogator through a photo.

The image of this interrogator, known by various names but known to most victims as “Rauf,” was identified by the victims among the images of people in the front row at Ayatollah Khamenei’s speech in 2015. Detention Center 2A, owned by the Revolutionary Guards’ intelligence service, located in Evin Prison, is a notorious place where many political and civil activists have been interrogated and sometimes mistreated and tortured after being arrested.

Although it is believed that this interrogator's main workplace is in Ward 2A of Evin Prison, a number of political-civil activists or prisoners' families have met and interrogated him in other locations, such as offices affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards across Tehran.

HRANA has spoken to a large number of former political prisoners to confirm the identity and role of this security agent. Among the people whom “Rauf” played a role in interrogating are Arash Sadeghi, Golrokh Iraei, Mahdieh Golroo, Atena Daemi, and many civil, political, and student activists whose names cannot be mentioned for security reasons.

A former political prisoner, who asked not to be named, told HRANA about what Rauf did to him during his interrogation: "Rauf slapped me so much during my interrogation that I had a nosebleed twice after returning to my cell. He hit me with the sole of his shoe, which cracked one of my bones. Rauf had a leather belt with which he would always start beating me. For no reason and like a madman, he would continue to do this for up to ten minutes, and then he would start beating me and swearing obscenely at me and my family."

Another former political prisoner who spent 6 months in Ward 2A told HRANA that Rauf played a role in forcing him to confess: “After several days of constant beatings and insults and humiliation during interrogation, they took me to a room to record a televised confession. Rauf wrote the scripts and provided them to the filming team. During all the stages of filming and taking my confession, which involved two teams from Ofogh TV and the 20:30 news program, Rauf was the main stage manager of my forced confessions under torture.”

A human rights activist who served his sentence in Evin Prison also said that he still hasn't forgotten Rauf's face since the end of his interrogations: "Throughout my entire detention and interrogation, he was disturbing my family and told my wife's family to tell your child to divorce her husband. He was present at all stages of the trial in the Revolutionary Court and repeatedly threatened me and my other friends with new cases. I still remember his ugly face. I still remember how he disturbed my wife..."

Mahdieh Golroo, a former student activist, also confirmed Rauf's role in interrogating her during her detention, posting a note on her personal page: "The places where he has summoned activists are Sabunchi Street, Niayesh Highway next to Ouj Institute, and a safe house on Afsariyeh Highway. Some of his victims are currently in prison. I have filed a complaint against him in Sweden with his name, phone number, and photo due to recent threats; the outcome is not important. Exposing the interrogators and those who destroy the lives of many is a duty regardless of the outcome."

HRANA News Agency is trying to complete information about this human rights violator. HRANA invites victims and those with information about this person's situation to contact us to help complete these investigations.
