Gulf Cooperation Council: Iran must stop interfering in the internal affairs of regional countries

On Thursday, August 28, Nayef Al-Hajraf, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, called on Iran to stop interfering in the internal affairs of regional countries and supporting "terrorism."

Nayef Al-Hajraf also considered the strategic cooperation between the United States and the Gulf Cooperation Council to strengthen regional security and stability.

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council has said that in order to improve regional security and stability, as well as support an end to conflicts in the region, I call on Iran to stop its destabilizing activities in the region, end its interference in the internal affairs of regional countries, and stop supporting terrorist groups in Yemen, Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon.

Saudi Arabia and the United States have repeatedly accused Iran of supplying weapons to the Houthi rebels and have insisted that the Houthi ballistic missiles are Iranian-made. Iran denies this accusation.

Iran and Saudi Arabia are engaged in proxy wars and fierce political rivalries in various parts of the Middle East, including Syria and Yemen. At the same time, the two countries support various political groups, parties, and figures in Lebanon and Iraq.

JCPOA negotiations

Nayef Al-Hajraf also called for regional issues and the missile program to be included in the negotiations to revive the nuclear agreement known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in Vienna, the capital of Austria.

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council has said that Iran's support for militias in the region should be included in the Vienna talks, and that these talks should not be limited to the revival of this agreement.

Iran and the United States have held six rounds of indirect talks in Vienna, mediated by the parties to the JCPOA, with the aim of getting Tehran to return to its nuclear commitments and lift US sanctions to revive the JCPOA. But differences between the two sides remain.

While Nayef Al-Hajraf has called for the issue of Iran's actions in the region to be included in the Vienna talks, Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's representative to international organizations in Vienna, said yesterday that the Americans "tied the entire understanding to accepting a clause regarding future talks on regional issues, which is completely unrelated to the subject of the talks and is harmful."

Iran had previously opposed the inclusion of regional issues and the missile program in the negotiations to revive the JCPOA.
