People in Iranshahr protested the beating of a Baloch citizen by police

Following the beating of a Baluch citizen in Iranshahr by police officers, the people of this city held a protest rally.

According to reports published on social media, on Wednesday, June 19, Iranshahr police officers in the 22 Bahman Square area of the city, after stopping a car, got into a fight with the driver when they realized he did not have a license. This action by the officers led to a protest rally by the public.

According to eyewitnesses, the police officers demanded "300,000 Tomans" in cash as a bribe from the driver of the car. The driver refused to give the money, and for this reason the officers beat him, which caused the crowd to gather.

According to available reports, eventually, as people gathered, counter-riot forces arrived on the scene. According to eyewitnesses, they fired shots into the air to disperse the people and beat the protesters.

This is not the first time that people in Sistan and Baluchestan province have gathered to protest against police brutality.

In early June of this year, a group of people from Zahedan gathered in front of the city's governor's office to protest the killing of a young man by "police shooting" and demanded an explanation from the police regarding the incident, but officers arrested at least 30 of the protesters.
