Iran's Statistical Center announced the unemployment rate in this spring at "12.6 percent."

The Statistical Center of Iran's report on the unemployment rate in the spring of this year shows that 12.6 percent of the potentially active population in Iran is unemployed.

According to the definitions of the Statistical Center of Iran, people aged 10 and above are considered the potential active population, and considering this, the number of unemployed people in the country is estimated to be three million and 366 thousand people.

The report says that the unemployment rate in the country has increased by 0.4 percent compared to last spring and by 0.1 percent compared to last winter.

A week before this report, Iran's First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri had stated that the unemployment rate was 12 percent and the unemployment rate for educated people was over 25 percent.

The report by the Statistical Center of Iran does not differentiate the unemployment rate of educated people and only includes the unemployment rate of youth aged 15 to 24 and 15 to 29.

Accordingly, the unemployed population aged 15 to 24 is 860,000, or 28.8 percent. The unemployment rate among the population aged 15 to 29 is 26.4 percent, or more than 1.8 million people.

Hassan Rouhani's government recently announced a program to create 970,000 jobs annually. Unemployment was a major issue raised in Iran's presidential election debates.

Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, one of the candidates in this election, promised to create five million jobs, which Hassan Rouhani and some economic experts considered impractical.
After the elections, the head of the office of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic warned about the increasing unemployment rate in Iran, saying that the unemployment problem is rampant.

According to the Statistical Center of Iran report, Alborz province has the highest unemployment rate with 20.4 percent, followed by Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari provinces with an unemployment rate of 20.3 percent and Kermanshah with 20.2 percent.

The lowest unemployment rate is in Markazi Province, which is 7.4 percent. The unemployment rate in Tehran Province is also estimated at 11.2 percent.
