Teacher who "whipped" student appears in court

Iranian education officials say the case of a teacher who flogged an elementary school student in Karun County, Khuzestan Province, has been referred to the judiciary.

In recent days, reports have been published that a teacher punished a student at Shahid Ayat Elementary School No. 2 in Karun city with a whip on Sunday, November 12.

Meanwhile, Kazem Baghlai, head of the Karun County Education Department, said in an interview with IRNA on Wednesday, November 5, that the teacher's case has been sent to the judiciary.

He also announced that the teacher's case has been referred to the first-instance board for investigating administrative violations and is being processed outside of the regular session.

Every year, several hundred complaints about corporal punishment of students are registered with education departments, and some of them are referred to the judiciary.
