Nikki Haley: Thank you President Trump, Iranian protesters now have an ally in America

The US ambassador to the UN, referring to President Trump's policy on Iran and his support for Iranian protesters, called it an example of the reemergence of American leadership in the world.

Nikki Haley, speaking at the annual Hudson Founders Award ceremony on Monday night, reminded Iran: “Thanks to our leadership, the Iranian people who are risking their lives to protest their government now know they have an ally in the United States of America.”

He emphasized: "The Western money that Iran used to finance Hezbollah, send missiles to Yemen, and fight in defense of Assad is running out."

Ms. Haley also criticized the Obama administration for signing the nuclear deal with the Islamic Republic – which President Trump withdrew from.

"When we pulled out of the nuclear deal, our European friends weren't happy, but it's important to note how upset the terrorist regime in Iran was," Haley said. "The Iran deal was a bad deal for the security of the United States and the world. It was also a bad deal for the Iranian people. It was only good for the Iranian regime."

The Hudson Institute annually awards the Herman Kahn Prize, named after the think tank's founder. Previous recipients include Ronald Reagan, Henry Kissinger, Mike Pence, Rupert Murdoch, and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.

The award was scheduled to be presented to House Speaker Paul Ryan on Monday, but he was unable to attend the George Herbert Walker Bush memorial service at the US Capitol in Washington.
