Bomb explosion in Basra leaves several dead and injured

The center of Basra, Iraq, was shaken by a bomb explosion. There were various reports of casualties and property damage. At least four people were said to have been killed and four others injured in the incident.

At least four people have been killed in a motorcycle bomb explosion in downtown Basra. Media reports and official figures for the number of injured vary.

Reuters news agency quoted an army official as saying the number of dead was four and the number of wounded was four.

The statement from the Basra Health Center listed the number of victims of the explosion as two dead and four injured.

The German National Radio announced the number of injured at 20, and the Al-Furat News Agency reported six people killed and injured.

Hospital sources reported a total of 22 injured and four dead.

Baghdad Today News Agency reported, citing a security source, that the bomb was planted in a car.

The explosion occurred near a hospital and damaged at least one car and a minibus.

Reuters, citing eyewitnesses, wrote that the minibus was severely damaged, with some passengers' body parts being amputated.

Officials have attributed this terrorist operation to ISIS, although ISIS has not had much terrorist activity in southern Iraq so far and is mostly active in the northern and western regions of the country.
