Seven years in prison for giving flowers to people on the subway

Seven civil society activists, two of whom had given flowers to people on the subway, were sentenced to a total of 29 years in prison. Civil society activist Neda Naji was also sentenced to five years and six months in prison. The Rokna news agency also reported the death sentence for a Telegram activist.

The HRANA news agency reported that seven civil society activists, Raha Ahmadi, Armin Sorani, Mohammad Abolhasani, Saman Zandian, Moein Hajizadeh, Vahid Ghadirzadeh, and Leila Mirghaffari, were sentenced to a total of 29 years in prison by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court.

The verdict was delivered to the defendants on Wednesday, December 4, in the presence of the defendants. The court hearing the charges against these individuals was held on November 9, presided over by Judge Salavati.

Based on this verdict, Saman Zandian and Moein Hajizadeh were each sentenced to eight years in prison on charges of “assembly and collusion, propaganda against the regime, and insulting the leadership,” while Raha Ahmadi, Armin Sorani, Vahid Ghadirzadeh, and Mohammad Abolhasani were each sentenced to two years in prison on charges of “assembly and collusion.” Leila (Khadija) Mirghaffari was also sentenced to five years in prison on charges of “assembly and collusion.”

Among these individuals, two defendants, Raha Ahmadi and Leila Mirghaffari, were previously arrested due to a video of them that was posted on social media, showing them giving flowers to people on the subway and talking to them.

The other defendants were arrested in August in Tehran, Qazvin, and Ardabil.

Five and a half years in prison for Neda Naji

Neda Naji, a civil activist who has been in detention since Labor Day, May 1, was sentenced to five and a half years in prison.

Jamal Ameli, Neda Naji's husband, announced this news on his Twitter page.

Neda Naji and Atefeh Rangriz were arrested during a rally on International Workers' Day in front of the Iranian Parliament. The two were transferred from Evin Prison to Qarchak, Varamin, a month after their arrest.

Death sentence for Telegram activity

Rokna News Agency has reported the issuance of a death sentence for a Telegram activist. According to the report, Meysam M., 39, was the administrator of a Telegram channel.

The prisoner is charged with “insulting the Prophet.” “Possessing weapons, possessing tear gas, drinking alcohol, insulting sacred places, possessing homemade liquor, and propagating against the regime” are among the charges listed in the indictment.

According to Rokna, Maysam M. has been sentenced to death for insulting the Prophet and to imprisonment, flogging, and a fine for other charges.

This ruling has been confirmed by the Supreme Court.
