India announces discovery of nearly $3 billion worth of heroin "smuggled through Bandar Abbas"

Indian authorities announced on Tuesday, September 20, the discovery of nearly three tons of heroin that originated in Afghanistan and was transported to the country via Bandar Abbas in southern Iran.
According to these officials, the value of the drugs seized from this shipment is a whopping $2.72 billion, making this shipment one of the largest illegal shipments ever discovered in India.
Gujarat state officials said the shipment was transported by Afghan nationals under the guise of semi-processed Talq stones from Afghanistan via Bandar Abbas, Iran, to the Mundra port in Gujarat, and forensic tests confirmed the presence of more than 2,988 kilograms of heroin in it.
The relevant authorities in India say that after receiving information about two containers at the Mundra port, they were able to discover these substances and have also arrested two Afghan nationals in this connection, whose interrogation is ongoing.
The discovery of this large shipment coincides with the chaos that has gripped Afghanistan since the Taliban took control of the country's government last month.
Afghanistan is the largest source of illegal drugs in the world.
Taliban leaders have said they plan to ban the drug trade, without providing further details on how this decision will be implemented.
