Swedish newspaper: Iran has arrested a Swedish tourist

The Swedish newspaper "Aftonbladet" wrote on Thursday, May 5, that, based on information received by the newspaper, a Swedish man in his thirties who went on a tourist trip to Iran with other Swedes has now been arrested in Iran.

Aftonbladet, citing an "informed source," writes that this action is related to "warnings about the possibility of kidnapping and detaining Swedish citizens in connection with the trial of Hamid Nouri in Sweden."

According to the report, the detained Swedish man was arrested last week when he was scheduled to leave Iran after a few days of travel.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed to Aftonbladet that a Swedish man in his 30s is being detained in Iran, but declined to comment further.

The newspaper writes that the Swedish embassy in Tehran is now seeking more information about the case and is in contact with Iranian authorities.

Hamid Nouri, who was mentioned in this newspaper's report, is accused of participating in the mass executions of political prisoners in Gohardasht Prison, Karaj, in 1988. He is currently in custody in Sweden and is being tried on the same charge.

On May 4, the last day of Hamid Nouri's trial in Sweden, ISNA news agency announced that the death sentence of Ahmadreza Jalali, a imprisoned Iranian-Swedish researcher with dual citizenship, would be carried out in two weeks.
