A shocking situation in Delfan County with the execution of about two thousand people

The execution of approximately two thousand people in Delfan County has created a shocking situation in the city.

Yahya Ebrahimi, a representative of Delfan County in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, announced that about two thousand people are on the verge of execution for drug trafficking in the city.

According to Jamaran, Yahya Ebrahimi stated that he traveled to Delfan County last week and met with the families of prisoners who were sentenced to death for selling drugs. Regarding his meeting with the families of the prisoners, he said: "Based on reports announced by the families of the prisoners, unfortunately, between one thousand and two thousand of our compatriots in Delfan County have been sentenced to death for selling drugs and are currently in the process of executing their sentences, and this statistic is very terrifying."

The Delfan County Representative, referring to a letter he wrote to the head of the judiciary, calling for the aforementioned sentences to be prevented, added: "I am truly moved by this situation, both for myself and for the officials who have provided the grounds for committing the crime and these executions over the past 44 years. Unfortunately, we are now witnessing that these individuals are on the verge of execution."

Yahya Ebrahimi stated in a video posted on social media: "I have asked the head of the judiciary to refrain from implementing these sentences for the sake of God, the people, and because we, the authorities, must be accountable to these loved ones. Because the authorities could have helped this city, which has a population of more than 150,000, to escape poverty and misery."

It is worth noting that the UN General Assembly, through a resolution, condemned the widespread human rights violations in Iran. The resolution condemned the execution of many death sentences by the Islamic Republic and considered them to be in violation of Iran's international obligations. The resolution stated that these executions were carried out based on forced confessions and without fair trials.

According to Amnesty International reports, executions related to drug crimes in Iran during the first 5 months of 2023 accounted for two-thirds of the total number of executions in Iran, and those sentenced to death were members of marginalized groups with poor economic conditions.

The execution of 2,000 prisoners accused of selling drugs was ordered by the judiciary, while the Islamic Republic's regime is the largest importer of drugs. Last week, an official announced that the economy of Iran's prisons depends on selling drugs, but people who try to sell drugs due to the very bad economic conditions in Iran are found guilty and sentenced to death through unfair sentences.
