Two explosions in Zahedan injure several police officers

After a "terrible explosion" was heard in Zahedan, the police commander of Sistan and Baluchestan province announced the explosion of a "homemade" grenade and a "suspicious" package, injuring three officers.

The Young Journalists Club website reported on Tuesday evening, February 29, that a "huge explosion" was heard near Police Station 12 in Zahedan.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Ghanbari, the police commander of Sistan and Baluchestan province, said: "At 8:30 PM tonight, an explosion was heard on Besat Boulevard in Zahedan. Upon the presence of law enforcement officers at the scene and the investigations conducted, it was determined that the sound was caused by the throwing of a homemade explosive grenade."

According to Mr. Ghanbari, a check and neutralization team was dispatched to the location and upon investigating the location, they discovered another suspicious package in the same area.

He added: "The law enforcement officers immediately evacuated the area, but the object exploded before it could be neutralized, and three law enforcement officers were lightly injured, but their general condition is satisfactory."

However, according to Mehr News Agency, Fariborz Rashedi, head of the Emergency and Accident Center at Zahedan University of Medical Sciences, reported the explosion of "two sonic objects."

He announced that four people were injured in the explosion and taken to the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Jaish al-Adl group has claimed responsibility for these explosions.

According to Reuters, the group said in a statement that the explosions were "strong."

On Thursday, December 5, two people were killed and more than 40 injured after a "terrible" car bomb exploded in front of the entrance to the police headquarters in Chabahar city in Sistan and Baluchestan province.

According to officials, the driver of the car intended to enter the Chabahar Police Headquarters by passing through security barriers and detonate the car inside the headquarters. However, due to resistance and shooting by the building's security forces, he was forced to detonate the car in front of the entrance to the headquarters.

Some news agencies reported that the Ansar al-Furqan group had claimed responsibility for the explosion.

"Ansar al-Furqan" is a group that branched off from "Jundallah," and the Islamic Republic announced in June 2017 that the leader of this group, Mawlawi Jalil Qanbarzahi, had been killed in Sistan and Baluchestan.
