A labor activist in Sanandaj was sentenced to prison on charges of "propaganda against the system."

Ishaq Roohi, a labor activist from Sanandaj, was sentenced to one year in prison by the city's Revolutionary Court.

According to information published on social media, the last court hearing of labor activist Ishaq Rouhi from Sanandaj was held on Wednesday, August 20, in Branch 1 of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, and the labor activist was sentenced to one year in prison on the charge of "propaganda against the system."

The Committee for the Follow-up of the Establishment of Labor Organizations in Iran has previously published a text on its Telegram channel condemning the sentence issued to labor activist Eshaq Rouhi and calling for the sentence to be overturned.

Eshaq Roohi was arrested by security forces in Sanandaj on International Labor Day (May 1st). After 30 days of detention in the Intelligence Department and Sanandaj Central Prison, he was temporarily released from prison on June 12 after posting a 100 million Tomans bail pending the completion of the trial.

Based on available information, Branch 2 of the Sanandaj General and Revolutionary Court of Inquiry had initially issued a bail of five hundred million Tomans for the release of this labor activist; however, after Mr. Rouhi protested, the bail amount was reduced to one hundred million Tomans.

In recent months, following the intensification of labor protests, the Iranian government's security crackdown on labor activists has increased.

The US State Department has repeatedly condemned the violent confrontations and widespread repression of protesters, as well as the repeated and persistent violations of the rights of Iranian citizens, including workers, by the ruling regime in that country, and has said that the Islamic Republic's regime could have paid for the salaries of workers in Iran with the money it spent in Syria.
