Personal Information of Over 500 Million Facebook Users Leaked Online

A hacker claims to have released the personal information of over 500 million Facebook users for free on an internet website.
Reuters news agency reported that the information includes phone numbers, home addresses, email addresses, and other personal data such as users’ dates of birth.
In total, data belonging to 533 million people from 106 countries worldwide has been made publicly accessible. These individuals include 32 million Americans, 11 million British citizens, and six million Indians.
However, Facebook has stated that this information is outdated and relates to user data that was compromised in August 2019, and that it had previously warned users about this breach.
Alon Gal, founder of Israeli cybercrime intelligence firm Hudson Rock, told Reuters that the information appears to relate to data that has been circulating among hackers since January of this year.
The aforementioned information was published on an internet website associated with low-level hackers.
Gal stated that by reviewing the published information, he can confirm that the phone numbers and personal data of people he knows are accurate.
