Six-month prison sentence for journalist for ‘questioning’ Karaj’s Friday imam

Mehyar Taghikhani, a journalist from Karaj who was sentenced to six months in prison and one year of Instagram access deprivation for posing a question to the city’s Friday imam, has been sent to prison.
Javad Mogouyi, a filmmaker, announced the news on Thursday, Ordibehesht 29, writing on his Instagram page: Six months ago, following a complaint by Ayatollah Hossein Hamadani, the Friday imam of Karaj, about seeing the son of Karaj city council chairman (Javad Chapardar) in a municipal vehicle in the north, Mr. Taghikhani asked “hypothetically” in an Instagram live stream: if the Friday imam’s daughter did the same thing, would you take a stance?
According to him, a few days later, the Karaj prosecutor, based on a request from the Friday imam’s office, filed a complaint against the journalist and sentenced him to six months in prison and one year of Instagram deprivation.
Mr. Mogouyi says the Karaj journalist was sent to prison hours ago.
The Friday imam of Karaj’s complaint against this journalist comes at a time when he had implicitly deemed the Friday imam worthy of “curse” in Mehr of last year in response to seeing Chapardar’s son in a municipal vehicle in the north.
Following this criticism, Mr. Chapardar apologized for his son’s trip in the municipal vehicle to the north.
