Travel Warning to Iran Issued by Baku Foreign Ministry

The Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Azerbaijan warned its citizens about traveling to Iran.

The Republic of Azerbaijan has pursued tension-raising approaches against the Islamic Republic in recent months, and while declaring four employees of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s embassy undesirable, gave them 48 hours to leave Azerbaijani territory. Additionally, in Farvardin of the current year, it issued a statement against Iran.

Following the tensions and unfriendly actions by Baku in relation to Tehran, the Republic of Azerbaijan, while referring to the armed attack on Baku’s embassy in Tehran which was carried out with personal motivation, once again called the aforementioned act terrorist and announced: “Given the closure of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s embassy in Tehran following this terrorist attack, citizens should be cautious about traveling to Iran or travel to this country only if necessary and required.”

In this warning issued by the Foreign Ministry, citizens currently in Iran were also reminded to comply with safety regulations and were instructed to contact the Consulate General of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tabriz for consular requests and other matters.
