Shahla Jahanbin's early release from Evin Prison

Shahla Jahanbin, a civil activist and one of the signatories of the letter calling for Ali Khamenei's resignation, was released early from Evin Prison today, Monday, April 6. Ms. Jahanbin was arrested on November 14, 2020, after appearing at the Evin Courthouse's Sentence Execution Unit and transferred to the women's ward of Evin Prison to serve her 27-month sentence.
According to HRANA News Agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, on Monday, April 6, 2021, Shahla Jahanbin, a civil activist and one of the signatories of the letter calling for Ayatollah Khamenei's resignation, was released early from Evin Prison.
Ms. Jahanbin was arrested on November 14, 2020, after appearing at the Evin Courthouse's Sentence Execution Unit and transferred to the women's ward of Evin Prison to serve her 27-month sentence.
As of the time of writing this report, there is no precise information about the conditions and manner of the release of this political prisoner. However, in recent days, a number of political prisoners have been released early from prison. According to the amnesty and commutation of sentences circular, out of the 1,849 prisoners included in this circular, only about 0.6 percent of this number have been allocated to security convicts.
In mid-August 2019, a letter signed by 14 civil activists calling for Ayatollah Khamenei’s resignation was published. With the publication of this letter, a number of signatories were arrested and some were pressured. Following this letter, another letter with similar content was published under the title 14 Female Civil Activists. Shahla Jahanbein is one of the signatories of the statement by 14 female civil activists calling for Ayatollah Khamenei’s resignation.
Ms. Jahabin was arrested in late August 2019 in this regard and was temporarily released from Evin Prison on November 12, 2019, after posting a bail of 500 million Tomans, pending the completion of the trial.
Shahla Jahanbin, along with Giti Pourfazel and Zahra Jamali, who are currently serving their sentences in Evin Prison, and Shahla Entesari, were ultimately tried by the Tehran Revolutionary Court and each sentenced to 6 years in prison on charges of gathering, collusion, and propaganda against the regime. The sentence assigned to her was reduced to 44 months in prison due to reasons including being a mother and having no criminal record. This sentence was reduced to 33 months in prison after the verdict was not appealed and she submitted to the verdict, which, according to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, would be 27 months in prison.
