US sanctions one Iranian and two foreign companies linked to Mahan Air

The United States has added two UAE-based companies and an Iranian named Amin Mahdavi to its sanctions list. The individual and the sanctioned companies supply critical parts and services to Mahan Air.

The US Treasury Department announced in a statement on Wednesday, August 19, that it has sanctioned two companies, Partia Cargo and Delta Parts Supply (FZC), which supply critical parts and logistics services to Mahan Air.

The United States has sanctioned and blacklisted Mahan Air as part of its fight against terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

According to Reuters, the US Treasury Department also announced that it had added a citizen of the Islamic Republic named “Amin Mahdavi” to its sanctions list against Iran. This individual resides in the United Arab Emirates and owns and oversees the company Partia Cargo.

US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in the statement: "The Iranian regime uses Mahan Air as a tool to expand its destabilizing policies around the world and support the corrupt regimes in Syria and Venezuela."

"The United States will take action against anyone who supports this airline," Mnuchin added.

According to a statement from the US Treasury Department, these individuals and entities will be blacklisted and all their assets will be frozen. All US citizens are prohibited from doing business with these individuals.

The US Treasury Department says that two sanctioned companies, by providing services to Mahan Air, have been involved in transporting "terrorists and deadly cargo to Syria" in support of Bashar al-Assad, as well as sending technicians and technology to Venezuela.

On Monday, August 17, the District of Columbia Attorney General's Office indicted Partia Cargo and Amin Mahdavi on charges of illegally exporting aircraft parts to Iran.
