Execution of a prisoner in Urmia Prison

HRANA News Agency – At dawn today, Thursday, June 24, the sentence of a prisoner who had previously been sentenced to death on charges of murder was carried out in Urmia Prison.

According to HRANA News Agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, a prisoner was executed in Urmia Prison at dawn today, Thursday, June 24, 2023.

His identity as "Ali Piri, 40 years old" has been confirmed by HRANA.

This prisoner, who had been held in Urmia Prison for three years, had previously been arrested on charges of murder and sentenced to death by the judicial authorities.

HRANA reported yesterday that the prisoner in question had been transferred to solitary confinement to carry out the death sentence.

According to the annual report of the Center for Statistics, Publications and Works of the Human Rights Activists' Association in Iran in 2022, 457 reports have been registered, including 92 people sentenced to death, including 6 sentenced in public, and 565 executed. Of these, 2 were executed in public. Also, 5 people who were under the age of 18 at the time of committing the alleged crime, and who are called child criminals in legal terminology, were also among those executed this year.
