Forced marriage; suicide of a young woman in Boyer Ahmad

On Thursday, March 19, a 20-year-old woman in Boyer-Ahmad County, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, committed suicide with a hunting rifle after opposing forced marriage.

According to HRANA News Agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, on Thursday, March 19, 2020, a 20-year-old woman in Boyer-Ahmad County, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, committed suicide and lost her life after opposing forced marriage.

The identity of this citizen, Sahar Fakheri, 20 years old, from the village of Chin, in the Lodab district of Boyer-Ahmad city, located in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, has been verified by HRANA.

According to an informed source, Ms. Fakheri committed suicide with a hunting rifle while she was alone at home, in protest against the forced marriage to her cousin that had been arranged for her.

Previously, Mohammad Norouzinia, the head of education in Dishmook, one of the cities with a high rate of female suicides in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad provinces, had pointed out that the rate of self-immolation among women in the region is high and that "forced marriages" were one of the most important reasons for girls' self-immolation in this area.
