Ebrahim Firoozi, a Christian convert, was released from Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj today after completing his sentence. Mr. Firoozi was sentenced to five years in prison by the Tehran Revolutionary Court in April 2015. After his release, his sentence of two years of exile to Sarbaz County in Sistan and Baluchestan Province will be enforced.
According to HRANA News Agency, citing Mohabat News, today, Saturday, November 25, 2019, Ebrahim Firouzi, a Christian convert who was imprisoned, was released from Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj upon completion of his sentence.
Mr. Firouzi had another sentence of 2 years of exile to Sarbaz County in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, which will be enforced upon his release.
According to the report, Ebrahim Firoozi's family is trying to get a few days' leave before his deportation order is implemented, although the outcome of this request is not yet known. According to the report, prison officers took him from the prison to the city of Karaj this morning and dropped him off on the street. His physical condition is reported to be poor due to the prison conditions.
During his sentence, he was denied access to medical services and was denied leave. Prison officials also refused to send Mr. Firouzi on leave after his mother died in December 2018.
Ebrahim Firoozi, a 35-year-old woodworker and resident of Robat Karim, has been arrested and tried three times to date on charges of converting to Christianity and holding religious meetings. The first time was in January 2009, when he was arrested for his Christian missionary activities after being summoned twice by security agencies and transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj. In this case, he was sentenced to 5 months of imprisonment and 5 months of suspended sentence by the Karaj Revolutionary Court.
Mr. Firouzi was arrested for the second time on March 8, 2012 and sent to Evin Prison. The Robat Karim Revolutionary Court sentenced him to 1 year of penal servitude and 2 years of exile to Sarbaz County in Sistan and Baluchestan Province on charges of “propaganda against the regime” through holding religious classes.
He was arrested again for the third time on September 15, 2013 and transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison. In April 2015, Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Moghiseh, sentenced Ebrahim Firouzi to five years in prison on the charge of “forming a group with the intention of disrupting national security,” a charge under Article 498 of the Penal Code. This sentence was eventually upheld by the Court of Appeals, which was convened on January 15, 2016.
