Historic statement from 53 countries regarding nationwide protests in Iran

HRANA News Agency – 53 member states of the United Nations Human Rights Council signed a unique statement calling on the Iranian government to end its use of force against peaceful protests by citizens in Iran. In the statement, which was drafted by Chile, they called on the authorities of the Islamic Republic to bring the country’s laws into line with international standards. They also called for justice and the truth to be found in the death of Mahsa Amini.
According to HRANA News Agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, 53 member countries of the United Nations Human Rights Council called on the Iranian government to end its use of force against peaceful protests by citizens in Iran.
The Chilean delegation presented this joint statement on the situation in Iran on behalf of Spain and a group of trans-regional countries.
The signatories expressed concern and regret over the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman who was arrested by the moral security police for what they called “inappropriate headscarf.” They also condemned the use of force against women, calling it a denial of human dignity.
The signatories urged Iranian authorities to end discrimination and violence against women. They added: “All serious allegations must be fully investigated. We call on the Iranian authorities to bring the law into line with international human rights standards. We insist on an independent, impartial and transparent investigation into Ms. Amini’s death to identify those responsible and to provide Ms. Amini and her family with access to justice and the truth.”
The joint statement, recently delivered by Chile on behalf of Spain and a trans-regional group of countries, was signed by Afghanistan (representing the former regime), Albania, Andorra, Argentina, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, North Macedonia, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, East Timor, United Kingdom, Ukraine and the United States of America.
The Shahrivar protests of 1401 (Shahrivar 1402) refer to a series of nationwide protests that began on 16th of September following the death of a 22-year-old girl named Mahsa (Zina) Amini as a result of the actions of the moral security police patrol in Tehran, and spread to at least 85 cities and 18 universities in 29 provinces of the country by 1st of Mehr 1401 (Mehr 1402). These protests, which are still ongoing, have so far led to the arrest of hundreds of people and the killing and injury of dozens of protesters, including children.
Media outlets close to security agencies published forced confessions from a number of detainees, accusing the defendants of committing violence. The Iranian government also disrupted the internet nationwide, both at home and on mobile phones.
