"More than 55 percent" of Iranians over 65 are toothless

The president of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences says that more than 55 percent of Iranians over the age of 65 are toothless.
Alireza Zali said in a press conference at Shahid Beheshti University that tooth decay is a problem affecting Iranian society and teeth should be considered a serious health issue.
Stating that "87 percent of Iranian children under the age of six have decayed teeth," he added: "Every Iranian has six decayed teeth in their mouth."
The high cost of medical treatment in Iran has made it difficult for many people to afford dental care. The Khabar Online website previously reported that the high cost of dental care is one of the factors behind edentulism in Iran, along with people's financial problems and lack of enough money for dental treatment.
