Protests by workers at the Songun Varzaghan Complex continue; number of arrested workers increases to 7

On Thursday, July 6, the strike and gathering of workers at the Songun Varzaghan Complex took place for the third consecutive day. During the gathering, two of the protesting workers were violently arrested by security forces and taken to an unknown location. Including these people, the number of arrested workers at the Songun Varzaghan Complex increased to 7.

According to HRANA news agency, citing the Free Union of Iranian Workers, today, Thursday, July 6, 1401, the workers of the Songun Varzaghan mine went on strike and gathered in their workplace for the third consecutive day.

According to this report, the gathering of these citizens turned violent with the intervention of military forces, and the officers and two of the protesting workers were arrested.

The identities of these workers have been given as "Saeed Jabarian and Farzad Zalizadeh."

On Tuesday, July 4, two workers from the Sungun Varzaghan copper complex, as well as the previous day, Jafar Abbaspour, Mehrdad Monfared, and Khodai Esami, other protesting workers from the complex, were arrested and transferred to an unknown location; including today's arrests, the number of workers arrested at the Sungun Varzaghan mine has increased to 7.

As of the time of writing this report, there is no information available about the whereabouts of these workers and the charges brought against them.

For several months, the workers of this complex have been pursuing the implementation of equalization of rights with official workers and workers of other mines, and they also have other demands, including the full and correct implementation of job classification. However, despite repeated protests and strikes, the complex management and contracting companies have not implemented these workers' demands.
