The hashtag "Iran regime change" trended a few hours after the announcement of the new US policy towards the Islamic Republic.

Just a few hours after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's speech and the announcement of America's new strategy against the Islamic Republic, thousands of Twitter users called for the overthrow of the Islamic Republic of Iran using the hashtag #iranregimechange.

On Monday, May 21, the US Secretary of State, while announcing increased pressure on the Islamic Republic, stated that Washington is ready to negotiate with Tehran if the Iranian religious government changes its behavior.

Below we take a look at some of the tweets from users with the hashtag #iranregimechange:

A user thanked Mike Pompeo for his speech and wrote that the Iranian people are in the final battle to liberate themselves from the Islamic Republic regime and need the moral support of the United States and the international community.

Another user wrote: "The Iranian people have been held hostage for forty years. It's time for those who believe in democracy, human rights, and freedom to show their support. We want change."

Another user, using this hashtag, wrote that the Iranian regime is not reformable. Changing the Iranian regime is the only way to create peace and security in the region.

Another user wrote that many of those who thanked Pompeo and used the hashtag "regime change" see this as an opportunity to break the chains and end the regime of terror of the mullahs and Islamic extremists to join the free world.

A user also posted photos of police attacking people and clerics taking money from a holy shrine, writing, "This is why we want regime change."

Another user called for regime change by posting a video of women's rights violations.

Another user, posting a photo of a drought in one of the lakes, cited the Iranian government's inattention to environmental issues as the reason.
