Raheleh Ahmadi, Saba Kord Afshari's mother, sentenced to 50 months in prison

Raheleh Ahmadi, the mother of imprisoned civil activist Saba Kord Afshari in Iran, was sentenced to four years and two months in prison by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court.

Ms. Ahmadi, publishing this news on her Twitter page, wrote that this verdict was communicated to her lawyer, Hossein Taj, on Monday, December 15, and if confirmed by the appeals court, it will be enforceable for 3 years and six months.

Upon publishing this news, he said, "Now, for 3 years and six months, or 1,277 nights of imprisonment, I will be by my daughter's side and caress her hair."

Voice of America had previously announced on Twitter that the hearing on Raheleh Ahmadi's case would be held on Tuesday, December 10, at the Revolutionary Court.

Previously, Voice of America reported that Rahela Ahmadi had been indicted on Thursday, July 10, at the prosecutor's office on charges of "propaganda against the regime," "collaborating with hostile media," and "encouraging and facilitating corruption and prostitution."

Raheleh Ahmadi, the mother of Ms. Kord Afshari, was arrested by security forces on July 9 with the aim of pressuring her daughter to give a television interview. After a while, she was temporarily released from prison after posting a bail of 700 million Tomans until the end of the trial.

Saba Kord Afshari, a imprisoned civil activist and protester of compulsory hijab, has previously been sentenced by the Revolutionary Court to 15 years in prison on charges of encouraging corruption and prostitution, to 7 years and 6 months in prison on charges of gathering and colluding with the intent to commit a crime against national security, and to 1 year and 6 months in prison on charges of propaganda against the system.

The US State Department has repeatedly condemned the Islamic Republic regime's violent actions against the Iranian people under various pretexts, including attacks on the freedom to choose the type of clothing, as well as the repeated and persistent violations of the rights of Iranian citizens by agents of the regime.
