Biden campaign calls attempt to halt US election vote count 'scandalous'

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden's campaign called Trump's attempt to stop the vote count an unprecedented "scandal" in American history. Politicians in other countries, including Germany, reacted to Trump's remarks.

The campaign of Joe Biden, the Democratic Party's candidate for the US presidential election, reacted to the remarks of Donald Trump, the country's President and Republican candidate in the election, on Wednesday morning (November 4), calling it an unprecedented "scandal" and ruling out the possibility of stopping the vote count.

Donald Trump has declared himself the winner of the election and called for a halt to the vote count. Nearly 100 million mail-in ballots have yet to be counted.

The Biden campaign has said Joe Biden’s legal team is equipped to legally confront Trump’s efforts. “Never in our history has a president of the United States tried to steal the American vote in a national election,” Biden campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement, adding that multiple teams of legal experts are ready to fight Trump’s potential actions “and they will prevail.”

Reactions in Germany

Christian Lindner, the head of the German Free Democratic Party, reacted to Trump's words, in which he called himself the winner of the election, on the German Channel 2 television program - dedicated to covering the US elections - calling Trump's action "astonishing" and said: "All the rumors we have heard in recent days have unfortunately been confirmed."

Lindner called the current situation in America a "crisis" in American democracy that could have unexpected consequences not only for America but also for the rest of the world.

According to him, this situation could "prevent America from playing a role in the world's political interactions."

Gregor Gysi, the leader of the Left Party faction in the German parliament, called Donald Trump's early victory announcement "catastrophic" and "undemocratic."

He also strongly condemned Trump's policies on the morning show on German Channel 2 television, saying that even if it becomes clear after the vote count that Biden has won, Trump has "fueled a tense atmosphere."
