Canada arrests Huawei executive at US request for Iran sanctions violation

Canada has arrested a senior executive of the technology company Huawei, who is accused of violating US sanctions against Iran, at the request of the United States.

Reuters reported on Thursday, December 5, that Wanzhou Meng, a member of Huawei's board of directors and the daughter of Huawei's founder, has been arrested.

Huawei Technologies Co. is a communications services provider, but it has long been accused of circumventing US sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Canadian sources say that Meng Wanzhou was arrested in the city of Vancouver in western Canada at the request of the United States.

It was said that he was arrested two days ago and will be transferred to the United States.

He is among the Huawei executives who were prosecuted by the United States.

In June 2016, it was announced that judicial authorities in New York had accused Huawei of violating US sanctions. They said the company had transferred American products to Iran and other countries.

In May of this year, Jean-Baptiste wrote an article in Forbes titled "Investigation into Huawei's Violations of Sanctions Against Iran."

The author cited a report from the Wall Street Journal, according to which the US Department of Justice is investigating the possibility of a Chinese company violating sanctions against Iran and exporting prohibited technology to Iran.

Forbes previously wrote: This is not the first time that Huawei has violated sanctions against various countries. The Bureau of Industry and Security in the US Department of Commerce announced that over the past five years, Huawei has violated sanctions by exporting US-made technology and industrial equipment directly or indirectly to Sudan, Syria, North Korea, Cuba, and Iran.
