Floods in Iran: Rain continues in 15 provinces, body of second missing person found

According to the Iranian traffic police, rain and snow are continuing in 15 provinces and fog is continuing in five others. Two major routes in Khorasan Razavi have been blocked, and the death toll from a boat capsizing in Gomishan has risen to two.

The deputy governor of Golestan Province, Gomishan, said on Wednesday morning that the death toll from the capsizing of a motorboat carrying volunteers, rescuers, and flood victims in the city had increased to two.

Ali Reza Hosseini said rescuers found the body of the second missing person on Wednesday morning.

Earlier, the Iranian Red Crescent said on its Twitter account that 18 people were injured, one person died, and two others were missing after a boat carrying at least 21 people capsized in Gomishan.

However, the state-run IRNA news agency, apparently citing the deputy governor of Gomishan, gave a different figure for the number of injured. According to the report, the motorboat was carrying at least 25 people, two of whom died and four were missing after it capsized; the rest of the passengers were rescued.

Gomishan is located on the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea, in the west of Golestan Province. Part of the city is currently underwater.

Rain and fog continue in 20 provinces

Iranian traffic police say snowfall has been reported in parts of East Azerbaijan, Mazandaran, Zanjan, and Hamedan provinces, and rain has been reported in Tehran, Hamedan, Zanjan, Mazandaran, Hormozgan, Fars, Gilan, West Azerbaijan, Kermanshah, North Khorasan, and Khorasan Razavi provinces.

According to the Iranian traffic police, the provinces of Ardabil, Alborz, Zanjan, Qazvin, and the Semnan highlands are experiencing fog.

Ahad Vazvi, Director General of Forecasting and Early Warning at the Meteorological Organization, also said that on Thursday, April 28, another wave is expected in the western half, center, northeast, and east of the country, with rain and temporary strong winds, and snowfall in cold and high-altitude areas.

Blocking of two main routes in Khorasan Razavi

Mashhad Airport Public Relations announced that due to a significant reduction in horizontal visibility, incoming flights to the airport were suspended from early Wednesday morning. Two main routes to Khorasan Razavi Province were also closed following the rains of the past few hours.

Hassan Jafari, public relations manager at Mashhad Airport, told the state-run IRNA news agency that flights have resumed since 5:40 a.m. and that the airport is currently operational and flights are taking place.

Mashhad International Airport is the second busiest airport in the country after Tehran's Mehrabad Airport, and on average, between 180 and 250 incoming and outgoing flights are carried out there daily.

At the same time, news has also been reported from Khorasan Razavi Province about the closure of two main routes.

As Colonel Hadi Omidvar, head of the Khorasan Razavi Traffic Police, announced on Wednesday morning, the routes "Kashmar to Koohsorkh due to landslides and flooding" and the route "Quchan to Sabzevar due to waterlogging on part of the road" have been closed.

In addition to the roads of Khorasan Razavi, the Chalus road is still closed, but the Haraz and Firouzkooh roads have been reopened.
