Tehran City Council calls for Environmental Organization intervention regarding hospital waste

Zahra Sadr-e-Azam Nouri, head of the Tehran City Council's Health Commission, called for the Environmental Protection Organization to intervene in the dispute between the municipality and the Ministry of Health over confirming the safety of medical waste.
According to Abesna, this member of the Tehran City Council said: "Dr. Ayazi, one of the deputy ministers of the Ministry of Health, announces that all our medical waste is made safe. While we have had reports about the failure of some medical waste to be made safe by some experts. ... The Environmental Protection Organization should definitely express its opinion in this regard so that we can take the necessary action based on their opinion."
Earlier, there were reports in the media of hospital waste being dumped around Tehran and in regular garbage dumps in the city. In Ahvaz, according to an official at Jundishapour University, hospital waste in this city is buried mixed with other waste.
