Mohammad Habibi, a imprisoned teacher, was dismissed from education.

Mohammad Habibi, a imprisoned teacher who is an activist in the educators' union and a member of the board of directors of the Tehran Province Teachers' Association, was dismissed from his job by order of the Education Administrative Violations Investigation Board.

The Telegram channel of the Iranian Teachers' Union announced that this teachers' union activist, who is serving his sentence in Greater Tehran Prison, was dismissed from his teaching job on Tuesday, May 2, by order of the Primary Board for Investigating Administrative Violations of Education, and his wife was notified of his redemption order.

The news report states that "this unjust verdict" was issued and confirmed by the appeals board despite the fact that throughout the two years of Mohammad Habibi's detention in prison, "from the minister to his deputies claimed that they were seeking to issue unpaid leave [for this imprisoned teacher]." However, according to the verdict, the reason for issuing the above verdict was the Ministry of Education's claim that he had been absent for the past two years.

The report states that by issuing this ruling, the government "intensified the process of suppressing trade union activists."

Previously, Voice of America had announced in a report that at least 15 teachers' union organizations in different provinces of Iran had issued a statement on Friday, April 12, calling for the immediate release of prisoners, including Mohammad Habibi, a teachers' union activist and board member of the Tehran Province Teachers' Association, following the widespread spread of the coronavirus and the risk of prisoners contracting the virus in Iranian prisons.

Mohammad Habibi, a teacher imprisoned in Evin Prison, was arrested along with 14 other participants in a rally held in front of the Planning and Budget Organization on May 10, 2018, on the occasion of Teacher's Week. After some time, this educator union activist and member of the board of directors of the Tehran Province Teachers' Association was sentenced to 10 years and six months in prison and flogging, a sentence that was confirmed by the Court of Appeal.
