Behesht Zahra CEO: More than 41,000 coronavirus victims are buried in this cemetery

The CEO of the Behesht Zahra Organization announced on Tuesday, September 29, that so far 41,591 victims of the coronavirus have been buried in this cemetery.

Saeed Khal announced at the eighth session of the Tehran City Council that since the beginning of March 2019, the Behesht Zahra organization has been involved in an unprecedented crisis over the past 50 years, which has never been experienced before.

According to him, "Even during the years of the Sacred Defense, the Tehran floods, the Bam and Rudbar earthquakes, such numbers had not been seen in the number of deaths."

The CEO of the Behesht Zahra Organization stated that as of last night (Monday, September 29), 41,591 deceased people from the coronavirus have been accepted at the Behesht Zahra site, thus 40 percent of the country's coronavirus victims have been accepted at the Behesht Zahra Organization and 60 percent at other cemeteries in the country.

According to this report, among all the coronavirus victims admitted to Behesht Zahra, 24,831 were men and 16,753 were women.

The new surge in the coronavirus outbreak in Iran has intensified while vaccination in the country has only accelerated somewhat in recent days, so that so far 8,711,970 people have received both doses of the coronavirus vaccine.

The total number of vaccine doses administered in the country has reached 27 million, 501,586.

However, the inability of the Imam's Executive Command Headquarters to mass produce an effective vaccine and the ban on the import of American and British vaccines by the Leader of the Islamic Republic caused the death toll from the coronavirus to increase sharply over the past month.

The CEO of the Behesht Zahra Organization stated that the organization's capacity to bury the dead daily under normal conditions is between 150 and 160 people. According to him, during the crisis, this capacity could be increased to about 240 people; however, during the Corona crisis, this capacity increased to 2.5 times this capacity with double pressure and multiple working hours of the staff.

He said on July 6 that Behesht Zahra employees would continue their activities in two and three shifts.

On Tuesday, Mr. Khal announced that 225 Behesht Zahra personnel had contracted the coronavirus and said that 600 of the organization's personnel had received the vaccine. According to the budget allocated by the Tehran Municipality's Finance Department, an "isolation purification center" has been ordered to be built at Behesht Zahra Organization, and so far, about 20 percent of the physical progress has been made.
