Teachers' bank accounts blocked to help flood victims in Sistan and Baluchestan

Teachers' bank accounts were frozen to help flood victims in Sistan and Baluchestan.

Mohammad Habibi, an activist with the Iranian teachers' union, had announced three bank accounts to help flood victims in southern Sistan and Baluchestan, but last night he announced that these accounts had been blocked by the Islamic Republic.

The Teachers' Union issued a statement regarding the blocking of these accounts, stating: "We would like to inform all our dear colleagues and compatriots that unfortunately all three accounts announced to help the flood victims of Sistan and Baluchestan have been blocked, and although it is possible to deposit into these accounts, withdrawals are not possible for the account owners. We strongly request all our supporters to refrain from depositing their cash donations into the accounts announced in previous announcements until further notice."

Nearly two weeks have passed since the flooding in Sistan and Baluchestan province and the problems it has caused for the people. During this two-week period, not only has the government not provided effective assistance to the flood victims of this province, but it has also blocked accounts related to collecting public donations.

Moeen al-Din Saeedi, a member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, also stated in an interview with the Shargh newspaper: "Parviz Parastoei, Rasoul Khadem, and the tankers helped the flood victims of Sistan and Baluchestan more than the government." His sarcastic remarks also referred to the absence and lack of effective presence of officials.

According to Mr. Saeedi, a member of parliament, most of the road infrastructure in some areas has been completely destroyed. In addition, houses have been completely empty and roads have been destroyed, and we are witnessing an accident every day. There are no sewage networks in the city and village, and flooding has caused sewage to mix with drinking water, increasing the possibility of infectious diseases spreading.

According to reports, the director general of the Sistan and Baluchestan Crisis Headquarters said regarding the initial estimate of the damage: "The floods have caused more than 14 trillion rials of damage to the infrastructure of 13 cities in this province."

Despite the fact that the government has not provided any effective assistance to the flood victims in Sistan and Baluchestan province, many people have donated to the province. "Mohammad Ali Zhamtkash", an activist of the Iranian Teachers' Union, went to help the flood victims with a truck containing public aid. Also, some non-governmental organizations, including one run by Rasoul Khadem, a wrestling champion, are helping the victims with the help of volunteers by being present in many flooded areas.
